Maximising the impact of CPD

To get the most from this course, set out a plan for how you will study. Consider if you will study alone or with others. Consider the time frame for study and the number of hours you will devote to study each week. This course is designed to enable you to become an expert - as such, you can expect that it will take time. If time for study is limited, you might decide to focus on a particular element of the reading comprehension course. For example, you might focus on 'understanding pupil difficulties' with a view to enabling more pupils in your class to achieve the expected levels of comprehension. Or perhaps you might focus on one of the big 10 such as improving pupils' inference skills or developing visualisation. Look at the course menu. It is useful to plot out on a calendar key milestones, e.g. completion of introductory units, completion of each of the Big 10, reviewing bonus materials. Leave yourself time for offline study, e.g. making notes, completing checklists, planning lessons, adapting resources, observing colleagues.
